Having joined the family-owned winery in 2004, she also serves as Director of Production and Quality, overseeing winemaking operations and safeguarding the legacy of a house founded in 1920 and renowned for its long-aged wines and exceptional cellar library.
IN THE VINEYARD
Working closely with growers across Bairrada and neighboring regions, Célia promotes vineyard practices that preserve varietal character and regional identity. Her focus on quality sourcing and careful selection supports the winery’s commitment to authentic expressions of indigenous grapes such as Baga, Touriga Nacional, and Alfrocheiro, ensuring that each wine reflects the structure, freshness, and longevity for which these terroirs are known.

With a background in Food Engineering and postgraduate training in Food Safety, she combines scientific rigor with respect for tradition. Under her guidance, Caves São João continues to champion extended aging, both in bottle and in its historic underground cellars, crafting wines that balance vibrant acidity with layered complexity. Her leadership ensures consistency across a diverse portfolio that includes iconic labels such as Frei João, Porta dos Cavaleiros, and Quinta do Poço do Lobo.
