Torremorón
Ribera del Duero, Spain
Deep in the historic village of Quintanamanvirgo, in the Burgos sector of Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Torremorón represents a living expression of collective vineyard heritage. Founded in 1957 as a cooperative of local growers, the winery remains closely tied to the rhythms of village life, where ancient underground limestone cellars still serve as a reminder of centuries-old winemaking traditions. Today the estate continues to craft authentic, terroir-driven wines from Tinto Fino under the technical leadership of winemaker Fernando de la Cal, whose approach honors both regional identity and contemporary quality standards.
IN THE VINEYARD
Torremorón works with high-elevation vineyards planted primarily to old bush-trained Tinto Fino, the local expression of Tempranillo. The extreme continental climate of Ribera del Duero, defined by hot summer days, cold nights, and low annual rainfall, promotes slow phenolic ripening while preserving natural acidity and aromatic lift. Limestone and clay-calcareous soils contribute structure and minerality, allowing the wines to reflect the raw intensity and freshness of this elevated plateau landscape.
IN THE CELLAR
Fernando guides a winemaking philosophy centered on clarity of fruit and respect for traditional styles. Temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentations are widely used to preserve varietal purity and vibrancy, particularly for joven wines, while selected cuvées benefit from oak aging that adds depth, texture, and complexity. The result is a range of Tempranillo expressions that balance rustic authenticity with polished structure and notable aging potential.
SUSTAINABILITY
As a grower cooperative, Torremorón promotes long-term stewardship of its vineyards through responsible farming practices adapted to the region’s dry conditions. Low yields, careful vineyard management, and preservation of old-vine material remain essential to maintaining both quality and environmental resilience across the estate’s holdings.
